Reviews of Canon PowerShot A3300 IS

The Canon PowerShot A3300 is based around a 16-megapixel, CCD image sensor coupled to a 5x optically-stabilized zoom lens that offers focal lengths ranging from a useful 28mm wide-angle to a moderate 140mm telephoto. Maximum aperture varies from f/2.8 to f/5.9 across the zoom range. Images on the Canon A3300 IS must be framed and reviewed on its 3-inch LCD panel, as there's no true optical viewfinder on this camera. The A3300 display has a resolution of 230,000 dots (~76,800 pixels, with three dots per pixel).

The Canon A3300's sensor allows sensitivities ranging from ISO 80 to ISO 1,600 equivalents, which extends to ISO 6,400 in Low Light mode. Exposures are determined using Evaluative, Center-weighted Average or Spot metering, and direct control of shutter speed or aperture isn't possible on this camera (except for a "Long Shutter" mode which lets you choose shutter speeds between 1 and 15 seconds). 2.0EV of exposure compensation is available, in 1/3EV increments. Seven white balance modes are available on the Canon A3300 IS - Auto, Manual, or five presets. The PowerShot A3300 IS's built-in flash strobe has a range of 13 feet at wide-angle, dropping to 6.6 feet at telephoto, and recharges in ten seconds or less.

How do you think about Canon EOS 550D

The Canon EOS 550D is not quite Canon's highest-spec'd consumer digital SLR, but it still packs a mighty punch.
The EOS 550D sits just below the EOS 50D and the more professionally orientated EOS 7D in Canon's rather cluttered product line-up, but in some ways it trumps these higher-spec'd cameras.
For example, the EOS 550D packs in more megapixels than the EOS 50D (18Mp versus 15.1) and offers more sophisticated HD video features, with the ability to manually control exposure.
Of course, Canon is not Father Christmas, so you're not getting an EOS 7D on the cheap here.

The 550D lacks the 7D's bullet-proof alloy construction and lags behind in the speed stakes. While the EOS 550D can shoot at 3.7 frames per second in Continuous Shooting Mode, it's restricted to 34 JPEG images, or six RAW files – so sports and action photographers might want to look elsewhere.
But don't get us wrong; while the EOS 550D is not a professional-spec SLR, the keen photographer will still get a lot of bang for their buck.

How to upload AVCHD video from Sony Cybershot to Mac

"Sony Cybershot DSC WX7 Help with Video?
I got a new Sony today. problem is, I'm on mac and I noticed that the videos I record with it show up as "MTS" files on my computer. Mac by the way.
that would be fine If I could run them on anything.
even when I convert them to mp4 via a program I found online, it doesn't work.

I don't know what I can do to make this work, I spent alot of money on this camera, and want to be able to actually use it. for youtube and such.
and help with this would be much appreciated !"

The problem is, the AVCHD has no good compatibility with Mac program, though the latest iMovie'11 is claimed to have support hundreds of popular camcorder models. Have a look at Toshiba Camileo S30

Toshiba's upright camcorder, the Camileo S30, is designed for those on the go, wanting to capture spontaneous moments in full HD resolution (1080p) without breaking the bank. It's also incredibly light at 120 grams and slim at just 19mm thick. Equipped with an 8-megapixel CMOS sensor for its still images, the S30 does without optical zoom, opting instead for 16x digital zoom.
Toshiba made the Camileo S30 pretty portable: it's super light at only 4 oz. and measures just a little thicker than the smallest Flip Cam.
The 3" touch screen is pretty easy to use, though you have to give it a poke or two to make it work properly; for the most part, it's just fine.
Sometimes it's hard to know which icon means what, so you'll have to dive down into the menus to see what each of them does.
The Camileo S30 comes with more features than the Flip Cam, like slow motion video, macro lens and an LED light, which are cool to have.
You can switch the mode from portrait to landscape so you won't lose focus as you move closer to your subject.
The slow motion feature is fun to fool around with, but it zooms you all the way in and lowers the quality, and we're not exactly sure why.
There's also a really bright LED light, which might be too much for the people you're shooting.
The Camileo's video quality is pretty good.
Normal light footage looks great. Colors are bright and accurate, and overexposure doesn't seem to be too much of a problem.
You might see some trailing when you move around.
Low light footage also looks good.
You'll randomly get weird dead pixels and grain but only when you're shooting in very low light and this doesn't always happen.

Video capture format(s):MPEG-4
Video capture resolution:1920 x 1280

6 unique camera tripods

Tripods can be super-useful tools when it comes to taking photos or shooting video, especially if you're trying to act as both photographer and subject in a group photo or video clip. Traditionally, a tripod has three legs that can be extended to varying heights, with a mount of some sort on top where you can attach your favorite camera or camcorder. While great to have around, a traditional tripod is often bulky, making it less than ideal to carry with you in many situations.

In recent years, quite a few unique tripods have hit the market that can do just as good a job as their larger counterparts (and sometimes better) without weighing you down. Here's a look at six tripod solutions that will stabilize your outlook on photography.
1. Joby GorillaPod
MORE: Five cameras for unique situations
Joby's GorillaPod is probably the most recognizable unique tripod out there. Designed in many ways like your traditional tripod, the GorillaPod departs from the norm with sturdy bendable legs that can be wrapped around tree limbs, light fixtures, or anywhere else you need to attach your camera in order to snap a few shots. The GorillaPod Original can hold most standard point-and-shoot cameras; Joby offers sturdier options for larger DSLRs and video cameras, as well as a magnetic version with feet that can be attached to any metal surface.
2. Bottle Cap Tripod
The Bottle Cap Tripod lets you turn virtually any bottle into a tripod. The tripod's stretchy rubber socket on one end wraps tightly around your bottle of choice, and a standard-issue tripod screw on the other end attaches to your camera. While you're not going to be able to get super creative with where you place the Bottle Cap Tripod, it can be great to have on hand for moments when you need a tripod in a snap. Throw this in your bag, and you'll never be caught without a tripod option … as long as you keep yourself hydrated.
3. The Monsterpod
The Monsterpod allows you to turn pretty much anything into a tripod. Made specifically for use with lightweight cameras, the base of the tripod is made of viscoelastic morphing polymer similar to the Silly Putty you may have played with as a child. This base can be stuck to anything, from your ceiling to a pole or a fence.
Just like Silly Putty, however, the Monsterpod can occasionally leave a residue on surfaces (or take things like paint with it), so while it's a great solution in a few situations, it can be an inappropriate tripod choice in others.
4. Gerber Steady
Not only is it a tripod, the Gerber Steady is also a multi-tool that comes sporting a fine-edged blade, a serrated blade, three screwdrivers, a bottle opener, pliers and wire cutters. This ultra-compact tripod is perfect for campers and outdoor enthusiasts who want a tripod for some shooting situations but don't want to be weighed down by some of the heavier or bulkier options out there. As the MacGyver of tripod tools, the Gerber Steady easily slips into your pocket; be sure to remove it before heading through airport security.
5. Pedco UltraClamp
If you're trying to take photos while biking around the city, trying to hold your camera can be not only difficult but dangerous. The Pedco UltraClamp is a tripod that can be mounted on things like a car window, your bicycle's handlebars, or a picnic table for snapping shots. It attaches via an adjustable clamp that can adapt to fit almost anywhere you may want to use it.
Both sturdy and small, the UltraClamp's maker claims it's strong enough to support any camera or camcorder, so you can use it with not only your pocket-sized point-and-shoot but also your favorite DSLR.
6. The Twig Pod
Is it a tent stake, or is it a tripod? The Twig Pod is an ultra-light monopod designed to be used by backpackers and out in the wilderness. The svelte aluminum monopod has a pointy foot for staking in the ground (much like you might stick in a golf tee), and a ball head mount on top allows you to shoot vertically, horizontally, or from any other angle you might like. Once you're done, the Twig Pod collapses into four 8-inch parts, allowing it to be easily stowed away while you continue your journey.

Try to know Samsung HMX-H104

The HMX-H104 has an internal 16GB SSD memory. To some people, this is an advantage over the use of hard disk drives. No moving parts make the camcorder extra durable.
It is a little more compact and pretty lightweight than some of its competitors. The stylish design will also attract many consumers.
The most surprising aspect of the HMX20 was its massive CMOS sensor. At 1/1.8in, it's still the largest in any consumer camcorder, and the 6.4-megapixel resolution was also market leading at the time of release. In contrast, the H104 and its siblings sport a much more modest 1/4.5in CMOS sensor with just 2.2-megapixels. Samsung still promises 4.7-megapixel still images, at 2,880 x 1,620, but this is clearly with a hefty dollop of interpolation, even if the end results are satisfactory for a camcorder.
A similar array of shooting resolutions and qualities are available to the HMX20. The top resolution is 1,920 x 1,080 Full HD, operating at 25 interlaced frames per second. But you can also record at 1,280 x 720 and 720 x 576 with 50 progressive frames per second. You can shoot time lapse footage, too, with one frame recorded every 1, 3 or 5 seconds for up to 72 hours at a resolution of 1,280 x 720. However, the slow motion options offered by the HMX20 have been left out. There are three quality settings, with the top Super Fine mode allowing around two hours of Full HD footage within the 16GB storage. There's also an SDHC slot if you need a bit more capacity.
Video quality from the Samsung HMX-H104 is very good. In good light, the detail and color is outstanding and I couldn't ask for much more. The Schneider lens does a great job of delivering low disortion images with great color temperature. One shortcoming of this video camera, as well as all others in it's category, is that the small sensor makes the depth of field very great. Good for getting everything in focus, but bad if you want to get a subject in focus and the background blurred. A much larger sensor is needed to create this effect.

Take Veho Muvi Micro DV camcorde to outdoos

Veho's Muvi Micro DV camcorder claims to be the world's smallest, and boldly goes where other cams fear to tread. But can this small wonder deliver a big performance? Find out in our Veho Muvi Micro DV review.
It's a bit of a surprise that the Veho Muvi Micro DV hasn't made more of a stir, given its grand claim of being the smallest camcorder in the world. So how small is small, we hear you ask? Well, at 5.5cm tall it's just over half the height of the Flip Mino. More significantly, it's also about as thick as a thumb, which is smaller than, well, just about anything.
Of course, there is such a thing as too small – as owners of the new iPod shuffle will testify. But the Veho Muvi Micro DV's size isn't for no reason – it's aimed directly at the outdoors and extreme sports market, and is invariably more comfortable up a mountain than down the pub.
When it is switched on, the Veho Muvi Micro DV will start recording when it detects any noise above 65dB, so you can start recording simply by talking to it, leaving your hands free to carry on scaling Everest or cycling through a ravine undisturbed. It worked well in our tests, which admittedly weren't on the planet's biggest mountain.
Like most entry-level pocket cams, clips are recorded in AVI format at 640 x 480. Battery life is pegged at three hours, though the supplied 2GB microSD card will fill up in about half that.
Performance-wise, we thought the Veho Muvi Micro DV's size would inevitably mean sub-standard video quality, but in fairness our outdoor clips came out well balanced and detailed given the resolution. Low light performance was decent too, though it did struggle switching between them – such as when cycling through trees. Sound quality is acceptable too, but it's easy to block the microphone accidentally.
Features
Smallest high-resolution camcorder in the world
2 Mega-Pixel video resolution
Versatile spring mounting clip
Voice-activated start/stop function
Usable as a webcam with included cable
3 hour battery life (250 hour stand-by time)
Records audio/video stream in common .AVI format

Review of Toshiba Camileo H30 HD Camcorder

The U.S. camera market is already flooded with affordable HD camcorders, but Toshiba thinks consumers can do with another, especially one that sports features typically found on devices costing twice as much.
That's what we have with Toshiba's H30, an entry-level device wedged between the higher-end X100 and pocket-sized S20 in its new Camileo line of HD camcorders. For $250 at launch, the 1080p Camileo H30 may run with the Flip and other pocket camcorders in price, but with a 5x optical zoom and picture controls, it laps them in specs.
Compact, lightweight and in Full-HD, the new Toshiba Camileo HD Camcorder with 5x optical zoom and a 3" touch screen lets you enjoy state-of-the-art technology with 1080p True High Definition Video and take sharp 10 MegaPixel digital still photos. Note: Memory card not included. Purchase of a memory card is highly recommended.
Toshiba Camileo HD Camcorder, 5x Optical Zoom, 3-Inch Touch Screen:
1920 x 1080 resolution HD video delivers high resolution video with excellent color and precision detail in AVI file format
5x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom gives you professional quality zooming capability on the Toshiba HD camcorder
3.0" touchscreen LCD allows you to shoot and review your footage on a bright screen that can even be seen in direct sunlight
Additional Features for the Toshiba Camileo HD Camcorder with 5x Optical Zoom and 3-Inch Touch Screen:
HDMI digital AV output
Video stabilization in 720p mode and below
SD/SDHC memory card slot
Easy YouTube upload button
Four record mode settings on the Toshiba HD camcorder
Pros: Great image quality, small size, a fair set of features, pretty good size zoom capability, and of course, full HD support, make this a great camera. Also, it takes excellent pictures.
Cons: There is one thing that is noticeable outright. Its autofocus can be a bit slow, especially when getting up close. Also, vibration reduction/image stabilization only applies with 720p HD, so thats kind of a let down. But still, the Pros beat the Cons
Summary: The product, with even with its patent cons, still makes a great video camera well worth the money. It has great features and unless you are a 100% professional videographer, it will satisfy your needs.
